Portmore couple on ammunition, possession charges granted $500,000 bail

A man and a woman who were arrested and charged over the seizure of a quantity of ammunition and a firearm magazine at their house in Phoenix Village in Portmore, St Catherine, were on Friday each granted $500,000 bail with surety in the St Catherine Parish Court.

Twenty-nine-year-old Anastacia Mirander and 32-year-old Kevin Baker are charged with unauthorised possession of ammunition and possession of a prohibited weapon.

The bail application was made by attorneys-at-law John Jacobs and Orville Morgan.

They told presiding Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle that the couple would turn up for court and that their address is well-known to the authorities.

As part of his bail, Baker was ordered to report to the Greater Portmore Police Station on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and submit his fingerprints.

Mirander was granted bail without reporting conditions.

Both accused are to reappear in court on December 1 for case management.

Allegations are that about 6:30 a.m. on September 8, police personnel conducted an operation at a premises in the community.

During the search, the police reportedly discovered a transparent plastic bag containing 10 rounds of nine-millimetre cartridges and a nine-millimetre magazine on top of a closet.

Both parties were arrested on suspicion and subsequently charged following a question-and-answer session.
