“ Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for Joseph had made the sons of Israel swear that they would take his bones with them when God led them out of Egypt, as he was sure God would.” (Exodus 13:19)

Immutability is the right word to use when attempting to describe God’s faithfulness to His words, promises, and purposes. The counsel of God does not fail. Even when everything appears as though it will not come to pass, when it seems that people have forgotten, records have been lost, time has passed, circumstances look negative, and the enemy is already celebrating, His ultimate purpose still finds a way to break through every barrier and become established.

It is not difficult to understand why this is so. A person’s word carries that person’s authority, character, and power. The God of Israel, Jehovah, is the Maker and Controller of all things. He sees eternity from eternity. He knows the end from the beginning. He is the Almighty, the Omniscient, the Omnipresent, and the Omnipotent. Therefore, all He has said concerning us will surely come to pass.

What we are saying is that the word and promises of God are reliable, irreversible, final, unalterable, and binding. They cannot be changed by human beings, events, disasters, circumstances, or even Satan. They will always come to pass at God’s appointed time.

I love the way the writer of Hebrews puts it: “So God has given us both His promise and His oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie.” Yes, it is impossible for God to lie. Why should He? Is it to please people who are merely His creatures? Is it to protect Himself, gain favour, or defend His actions? The Bible says that He made all things for His own pleasure and glory. He is not seeking to impress anyone. Why, then, would He make promises He has no intention of fulfilling? Why would He do anything that would compromise His integrity? There is no reason for that.

So, what has God said about you? Hold firmly to it because it will certainly come to pass.

The Bible is, in many ways, a record of prophecies and their fulfilment. From Genesis to Revelation, we see God demonstrating both His ability and His willingness to bring His words to pass accurately and completely. This is why the Scriptures repeatedly declare: “And it came to pass,” “As it was written,” “As the Lord said,” “As she was told,” “As the angel of the Lord told him,” and “As the prophets said.”

While we cannot explore every example of fulfilled prophecy, let us consider one outstanding case: Abraham.

When God called Abram, later known as Abraham, he was an ordinary man with no child and no evidence that the great promises spoken over his life could ever be fulfilled. Yet, God told him what He would do for him and through him. He spoke of descendants who would become as numerous as the stars in the sky. God brought Abraham outside at night and asked him to count the stars, telling him that, if he could number them, then he could number his future descendants.

God promised to make a strong and mighty nation from Abraham’s lineage. He foretold that his descendants would be enslaved in a foreign land for 400 years, yet would eventually be delivered and established in their own land. He showed Abraham territories occupied by powerful nations and declared that they would one day belong to his descendants. God also promised that, through Abraham’s descendant, Jesus Christ, all nations of the earth would be blessed. That promise would be fulfilled thousands of years later.

Did any of those promises fail? Not one.

God began by giving Abraham a son in his old age, at a time when every natural, historical, and medical consideration suggested it was impossible. Sarah gave birth to Isaac when she was 90 years old and Abraham was 100. Some Bible translations describe Sarah’s womb as being as good as dead, yet God fulfilled His promise exactly as He had spoken.

God also fulfilled His promises regarding Abraham’s wealth, influence, and reputation. He became rich, respected, and powerful, just as God had declared.

And, what about Abraham’s descendants? Can they be counted today? Consider the nation of Israel, the Jews scattered throughout the world, and the millions who trace their spiritual heritage to Abraham through faith in Jesus Christ. God’s word has proven true across generations.

God’s promises cannot fail. Whatever He has spoken concerning you can be trusted. Circumstances may change, delays may come, and challenges may arise, but God’s word remains steadfast. Nothing can prevent Him from accomplishing what He has promised.

Hold on to His word. Trust His timing. Believe His promises. God cannot lie.
