Jamaica to get direct flights to Mexico

Jamaica is poised for the first time to get direct flights to Mexico.

Jamaicans do not need a visa to visit Mexico.

Aeroméxico, Mexico's flag carrier and one of Latin America's best-known airlines, is looking to introduce flights between Mexico City International Airport and Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay on March 18, 2027, subject to applicable government approvals.

The flights will operate three times a week, with Aeroméxico indicating that this will see a schedule built for easy same-day connections.

Travellers from more than 40 cities across Aeroméxico's domestic network will be able to connect through Mexico City to Montego Bay.

Flights will operate Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, and tickets are now available through Aeroméxico's official sales channels.

The route will be operated with Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft featuring 166 seats, personal entertainment screens, and beverage and snack service.

Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett welcomed the announcement as a strong vote of confidence in the destination.

“This new route demonstrates confidence in Jamaica and opens important opportunities to attract visitors from Mexico and other destinations across Aeroméxico's extensive network. In keeping with our Tourism 3.0 vision, we will transform this enhanced connectivity into economic growth, stronger linkages across the Jamaican economy, and greater benefits for our businesses, workers and communities,” said Bartlett in a media release on Monday.

Giancarlo Mulinelli, Senior Vice President of Global Sales at Aeroméxico, said the airline is proud to make the connection.

“We are thrilled to connect Mexico City with Jamaica for the first time in our history, opening access to one of the Caribbean's most iconic destinations. We are confident that this route will create new ties between our two countries while providing customers with more options to connect to world-class destinations.”

Donovan White, Director of Tourism, said the new service brings Jamaica closer to a market with a strong affinity for the Caribbean.

“Aeroméxico's arrival in Montego Bay makes Jamaica significantly more accessible to Mexican travellers and enables us to bring the destination closer to a market with a strong affinity for the Caribbean. The Jamaica Tourist Board will work closely with Aeroméxico and our travel industry partners to build demand, expand distribution and inspire more visitors to discover Montego Bay and the diverse experiences available across the island.”
