Linstead man fined $40,000 for driving on suspended licence

A 24-year-old St Catherine man who was stopped on a highway while driving with a licence that was suspended was on Tuesday sentenced to $40,000 or 24 days’ imprisonment in the St Catherine Parish Court.
Derron Thompson, a labourer of a Linstead address, was charged with driving with a disqualified licence.
When Thompson appeared before Parish Court Judge Genetta Smikle, he pleaded guilty.
The judge gave him a stern warning for his actions.
Facts are that on September 19, Thompson was observed driving a motor car along the Edward Seaga Highway.
The police signalled him to stop, and he complied.
Upon perusal of the vehicle’s documents, a request was made for his driver's licence and it was revealed that he was suspended from driving.
He was subsequently arrested by the police.
Thompson was not represented when he appeared in court.
