NWC says water supply arrangement in place for Meadowbrook High

The National Water Commission (NWC) says an arrangement is in place to provide Meadowbrook High School in St Andrew with water.

Most classes at the school were suspended today due to a lack of water.

The school reportedly indicated that it did not receive a scheduled delivery from a private supplier, leaving its storage tanks empty.

The NWC, in a statement on Friday, said the commission had earmarked a water delivery for the school on Thursday, September 24, but stood down arising from the private arrangement made by the institution.

The company said it stood ready to provide the school with water.

“We consider the situation unfortunate, particularly as the NWC team and the institution have exercised collaborative efforts to ensure continuity of school operations over the past weeks. As recently as 22nd September 2026, the National Water Commission had provided water trucking services to the school.”

The commission said, notwithstanding the unforeseen mishap, the school will be provided with whatever support is requested for the resumption of normal operations on Monday, September 28.

It noted that, given the ongoing drought, the NWC and representatives of the Ministry of Education undertook joint discussions even before the commencement of the school term.

“From these meetings, the two agencies have been working via an agreed framework to ensure water is supplied to the various learning institutions during this critical period. This includes various operational teams also coordinating daily deliveries across the network.”
