Paquee Golf Club charity tournament for Mustard Seed

Seeking to surpass the $10.5 million in contribution to the Mustard Seed Communities in Jamaica, the Miami-based Paquee Golf Club will be staging its second annual charity tournament over 18 holes today at the Redland Golf & Country Club in Homestead, Miami.

More than 120 participants will compete in the colourful event with the International Longshoremen’s Association and the GraceKennedy Group as main sponsors. Competition will be mainly for team prizes for the participants of various Caribbean nationals with a tournament raffle also held to support contributions.

The tournament reflects the drive by the club, said Ray Fong, chairman of the fundraising committee, to help charities in Jamaica, endeavouring in Jamaica to sustain support for the Mustard Seed Communities.

Funds collected, he said, will address ongoing hurricane efforts of the organisation and its mission of providing lifelong care, quality education and therapeutic services to its residents, many of whom have severe disabilities.

The Paquee Club, established in 1988, will journey to Jamaica after the tournament to engage the Jamaica Buccaneers Club, competition activity for more than 30 years to strengthen diaspora ties.
