Head coach of the Jamaica national football team Rodolph Speid and his assistant Miguel Coley are expected to be reappointed to their respective positions by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) this week.

The Gleaner has been reliably informed that both men are set to resume their roles following a meeting of the JFF’s technical committee, which is scheduled for April 19.

Speid’s and Coley’s contracts as interim coaches expired at the end of March after the Reggae Boyz’s failed World Cup play-off bid. Jamaica went down 0-1 to DR Congo in the Intercontinental Play-off Final at the Estadio Akron in Guadalajara, Mexico.

However, when contacted, the JFF’s president Michael Ricketts remained tight-lipped on the matter.

“I can’t answer that because that is a board decision and the board meets on the 19th of April. The technical committee will make recommendations and the board will ratify it on the 19th of April,” said Ricketts.

The JFF boss also made it clear that the federation has no intention of looking overseas for a coach at this time.

“But we don’t have any intentions of going overseas for a coach. We have done very well with our coaching education programme and we have about 22 coaches, who are doing their A-Licence right now which means that there are scores of qualified coaches here,” Ricketts said.

“It is just that only a number of them would have had the experience but in terms of qualification, knowledge, know-how, there are a number of them who are actually on the horizon and completing their A-Licences right now,” he said. The JFF boss indicated that the hiring of local coaches for the national senior team will also save the association millions of dollars.

“I am sure that we will save some money because this will be a good part of our fiscal management right now. To make sure that we do not expand our expenses on overseas coaches,” Ricketts said.
