Like they did two years ago, Jamaica had to settle for fourth place in the mixed 4x400m relay, the final event on Wednesday's opening day of the World Under-20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
In a thrilling race from start to finish, the Jamaican quartet, which replaced Shameika McLean with Kevongaye Fowler and Jason Pitter with Jordan Rehudal from the preliminary round, fought gallantly but was narrowly edged out of the medals. The team clocked a national junior record 3:18.78.
The United States won gold in a championship record 3:15.31, while Czechia secured silver in a national record 3:18.16. Australia claimed bronze in an area record 3:18.45. Fifth-placed Great Britain and sixth-placed South Africa also recorded national marks.
Four Jamaicans advanced to today's individual finals, with three progressing on the track and one in the field.
Shanoya Douglas and Theianna-Lee Terrelonge will contest the women's 100 metres final today at 10:35 p.m. after impressive performances in the semi-finals. Douglas won her semi-final in 11.21 seconds, while Terrelonge finished second in hers in the same time.
The pair advanced as the second and third fastest qualifiers behind American Mia Maxwell, who led the field with 11.13 seconds.
Gary Card also booked his place in the men's 100m final after winning his semi-final in 10.16 seconds. He advanced as the third fastest qualifier behind American Tate Taylor (10.06) and South Africa's Marko Ferrara (10.13), who won their respective semi-finals.
In the field, Able Mills qualified for today's women's discus final, scheduled for 8 p.m., after placing fourth in her qualifying group and seventh overall with a throw of 53.37 metres.
