CAC Games: Relay silver for Jamaica

Jamaica earned another medal at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games yesterday, finishing second in the men’s 4x100m relay final at the Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The quartet of Travis Williams, Bouwahjgie Nkrumie, Javari Thomas, and Tyquendo Tracey clocked 38.08 seconds to secure silver. Hosts the Dominican Republic took gold in 37.98 while Puerto Rico claimed bronze in 38.12.

There was disappointment in the women’s 4x100m final as Jamaica missed the podium by one-hundredth of a second. Natasha Morrison, Krystal Sloley, Jura Levy, and Niesha Burgher combined for 43.42, just behind Puerto Rico and Cuba, who tied for silver and bronze in 43.41. The Dominican Republic swept the sprint relays, winning in a Games record 43.00.

Jamaica also fell short in the men’s and women’s 200m finals. Tracey and Kadrian Goldson finished fourth and fifth in 20.66 and 20.73, respectively. Puerto Rico’s Jose Figueroa won gold in 19.98, the Dominican Republic’s Alexander Ogando took silver in 20.47, and Trinidad and Tobago’s Aaron Charles earned bronze in 20.63.

Burgher narrowly missed a medal in the women’s half-lap, finishing fourth in 23.48 — five-hundredths of a second off the podium.

In the men’s 800m, Kirk Dawkins’ time of 1:50.54 was not enough to advance after placing fourth in semi-final one.

Meanwhile, Jamaica’s Clayton Bell finished sixth in the men’s vault final of artistic gymnastics, scoring 12.950. Guatemala’s Jorge Lopez won gold with 13.875, and Keynher Vera and Puerto Rico’s Jensuel Rodrigues tied on 13.825 for silver and bronze.
