Grenada FA backs Infantino

The Grenada Football Association (GFA) has thrown its full weight behind FIFA President Gianni Infantino following his abrupt decision to scrap the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise initiative, praising the move as a vital step toward preserving unity within world football’s governing body.

In a statement released on Thursday, the GFA lauded Infantino for his “swift action” in withdrawing the controversial proposal, which had raised concerns among member associations about potential centralisation of funding and decision-making.

The GFA framed the president’s about-face as clear proof of his commitment to keeping the 211-member family together.

“This is evidence that President Infantino prioritises strong unity among Member Associations and Confederations above all else,” the GFA said.

But the Caribbean body did not stop at applause. In a firm warning to any potential dissenters, the GFA made it clear that it will not “support or recognise any action by any Member Association or Confederation that threatens to circumvent or undermine the established institutional processes within FIFA”.

The statement underscored the GFA’s unwavering stance on good governance, due process, and transparency, principles it called “fundamental and non-negotiable”.

While the political rhetoric was pointed, the heart of Grenada’s message was one of deep gratitude. The GFA openly acknowledged the “unprecedented financial and technical support” provided under Infantino’s tenure over the past decade, support that has transformed the island’s football landscape.

From grassroots pitches to girls’ and women’s programmes, the GFA said the impact has been tangible. But the most visible change, they noted, has been on the international stage.

Grenada’s national teams have travelled more extensively in recent years than ever before, competing in friendlies and tournaments that were once out of reach.

The GFA pointed to the rise of Cape Verde as a shining example of Infantino’s vision bearing fruit. The island nation’s historic run to the FIFA World Cup, they argued, proves that increased opportunities for smaller nations can deliver real, measurable results.

“That is a compelling example of what can be achieved through greater opportunities and support for smaller footballing nations,” the statement read.
