Binnie ends retirement for Pan Am qualifiers

Chris Binnie leads an experienced four-member Jamaican team at the Pan American Games qualifiers in Asunción, Paraguay, with competition beginning today.

Binnie came out of retirement to help Jamaica qualify for the Pan American Games, which would strengthen the country’s pathway to qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games, where squash will make its debut.

Binnie holds the enviable record of being a 10-time Caribbean Senior Squash champion. He won his 10th Caribbean title in Kingston in 2022, extending his dominance in the region.

Eight of those titles were won consecutively between 2010 and 2017, an unprecedented streak in the men’s competition.

He also became the first Jamaican to win a PSA World Tour title when he captured the British Virgin Islands Open in 2014.

His dominance in the region helped propel him to a career-high world ranking of No. 65 in January 2018, the highest ranking achieved by a Jamaican male squash player at the time.

He has represented Jamaica at multiple Commonwealth Games, including Melbourne 2006, Delhi 2010, Glasgow 2014 and Birmingham 2022, as well as at previous Pan American Games and numerous international team competitions.

The other members of the squad are former All Jamaica champion Lewis Walters, Declan Chambers and Tahjia Lumley, who, along with Julian Morrison, recently returned from the CAC Games with a doubles bronze medal.
