‘We need this win’

Cavalier assistant coach David Lalor says his team will be going all out for three points when they face Salcedo in the Caribbean Football Union Club Championship at the National Stadium today.
The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m., with Cavalier seeking their first victory of the tournament after being held to a goalless draw by Cibao in their opening game on August 5.
Lalor expects a competitive encounter against a Salcedo team that already has three points from its opening match, but believes Cavalier have what it takes to come out on top.
“I don’t think that they do well defensively, but they are an attacking team because they have a good, strong centre forward, and so we have to be mindful of him,” Lalor said.
“We are going to play Cavalier style and do our best because, at the end of the day, we have to make them make the adjustments to us at some point. So we just have to come out strong and in full force and just make the best of it.”
With the importance of avoiding defeat in mind, Lalor said Cavalier are determined to take the initiative from the start.
“Cavalier have always done better away than at home when you look at the stats. But wherever we go, we always play with confidence because we need this win,” he said.
Lalor also noted that Cavalier will enter the contest with a clean bill of health, with most of the squad available for selection.
“The players are looking forward to it because they are looking good in training, and we don’t have much injuries, apart from one player,” he said.
“But for the most part, everyone is ready to go, and so we should be able to pull off this one. So there is confidence going into this game,” said Lalor.
