England extend lead to 357 against Pakistan

LONDON (AP):

England extended their lead over Pakistan to 357 runs after reaching 177-7 at stumps on a rain-hit third day of the second Test at Lord’s, where only 24.5 overs were possible.

England’s push for victory was disrupted by showers, with no play possible yesterday morning at the home of cricket.

The hosts eventually resumed in the afternoon on 81-3, and Dan Lawrence raced to an unbeaten 50 off 66 balls before more rain arrived just 14 deliveries after play resumed following a late tea interval. The teams never returned to the field, with play eventually abandoned for the day at 6:30 p.m. local time because of bad light.

England lost four wickets while adding 96 runs. Emilio Gay made 31, Harry Brook scored 34 and Jamie Smith added seven before all three fell to Mohammad Abbas (3-48) in the second session. Gus Atkinson was then trapped lbw for seven by Mohammad Ali after tea.

Lawrence and Ollie Robinson (2 not out) were at the crease at the close.

England made 290 in their first innings before dismissing Pakistan for 110.

Having won the first Test by an innings at Headingley last week, England are looking to clinch the three-match series.
