Warriors Women keep playoff hopes alive

The Guyana Amazon Warriors kept their playoff hopes alive with a 25-run victory over the Trinbago Knight Riders in the 2026 Limacol WCPL.

Contributions from Shermaine Campbelle with the bat and key wickets from Shabnim Ismail and Shamillia Connell paved the way for a result that leaves all teams still in contention for this year’s title.

The Amazon Warriors innings began brightly, with 17-year-old opener Eboni Brathwaite taking the attack to a strong Knight Riders bowling unit. She smashed the experienced Marizanne Kapp for six, but the South African responded by bowling her with a delivery that jagged back, ending her brief but entertaining knock on 16 from six balls.

Against the pace of Kapp and Shikha Pandey, the Amazon Warriors struggled to maintain the momentum generated by Brathwaite’s cameo. Campbelle continued her fine form, following up the half-century she scored in the team’s opening match with 31 from 28 balls.

Laura Harris removed Campbelle to put the Amazon Warriors under pressure in the closing stages, with two new batters at the crease. Pandey then dismissed both Nadine de Klerk and Chloe Tryon within three deliveries to make matters even more difficult for the Guyanese franchise.

In the end, the Amazon Warriors reached 119 for eight and required a strong bowling performance to defend the total.

That is exactly what they produced as Ismail and Connell ripped through the Knight Riders’ top order inside the powerplay. After six overs, the Knight Riders were reeling at 22 for five, and the situation could have been even worse had Connell not spilled a return catch off her own bowling.

With Harris, Kapp, Deandra Dottin, Jannillea Glasgow and Yastika Bhatia all back in the pavilion inside the opening overs, it was left to Madeline Penna to try and guide the Knight Riders to victory.

She struck Ashmini Munisar for six in an effort to bring the required run rate under control but was caught in the deep attempting to repeat the shot off the very next delivery.

When Penna departed, the tail was left to swing for the fences, resulting in more wickets falling as the Amazon Warriors secured a crucial victory ahead of today’s final group match against the Barbados Tridents.
