Manley seek third straight

Early Zone C leaders Norman Manley High School will look to extend their perfect start to the ISSA Manning Cup season when they host Donald Quarrie High at Maxfield Park today at 3:30 p.m.

Norman Manley have enjoyed an impressive opening to the campaign with back-to-back wins over Ardenne and Edith Dalton James.

The Maxfield Avenue-based team has scored 12 goals in two games and will be looking to add to that tally against Donald Quarrie.

They will enter the contest as slight favourites, but will be wary of a Donald Quarrie outfit expected to provide a stern challenge.

Donald Quarrie are hunting their first win of the season after playing out a 2-2 draw with Kingston Technical.

Also in Zone C, Denham Town will be hoping to secure a second consecutive win when they travel to Ardenne.

Denham Town recovered from a surprise loss to Edith Dalton James in their opening game to edge Pembroke Hall 3-2 in a close contest over the weekend.

As one of the favourites to advance from the group, Denham Town will start as strong favourites against Ardenne, who have struggled so far.

Ardenne are still seeking their first win after successive defeats to Norman Manley and Kingston Technical, and will face another stern examination against Denham Town.

In Zone B, Hillel Academy are looking to move up the standings when they host Penwood.

Hillel opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Innswood High and will expect another competitive encounter against Penwood.

Group leaders St Mary’s College will also be chasing a third consecutive win when they travel to Chedwin Park to face Innswood High.

Anthony Patrick, head coach of Innswood, believes his players are yet to produce their best performance despite Saturday’s 6-0 thumping of Clan Carthy.

Patrick hopes the team will continue to improve as the season progresses, but said there is still plenty of work to be done.

“I think it’s going to be a whole lot of work to do. The first game, we drew 1-1 with Hillel and to come now and get six goals, it’s a step in the right direction,” Patrick said.

“But the thing is that we have some good teams in front of us that we are going to play. We just have to fix some more things, fine-tune some things and, hopefully, we can start a little bit better.”

Zone A leaders Holy Trinity will face third-placed Greater Portmore, while Camperdown, who also boast a perfect record, will take on fifth-placed Jonathan Grant.

A slip-up by either Holy Trinity or Camperdown could have significant implications in the group, with the teams occupying first and second place, respectively.

All matches will kick off at 3:30 p.m.
