McLeod faces two-year ban

Jamaica’s most successful sprint hurdler, Olympic and World champion Omar McLeod, is facing a potential two-year ban from the sport following a whereabouts anti-doping rule violation.

McLeod, who won gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics, the 2017 World Championships and the 2016 World Indoor Championships, missed one test and recorded two filing failures within a 12-month period between 2025 and 2026, according to reliable Gleaner sources who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The missed test is understood to have occurred in Europe, where McLeod had been training.

Sources say McLeod was notified of the violation in recent months but has yet to indicate whether he intends to challenge the finding.

Calls to McLeod’s phone went unanswered, and he no longer has an agent listed on his World Athletics profile.

The Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission has also been advised of the violation, sources said. Up to Monday afternoon, however, officials of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association had not confirmed being notified of the case.

McLeod, the national record holder in the event with 12.90 seconds, has not competed this season.

His last race came on June 17, 2025 at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland.

Under World Anti-Doping Agency rules, athletes in a registered testing pool must submit detailed whereabouts information every quarter, including their home address, contact details, overnight accommodation, regular activities and competition schedule. They must also provide a daily one-hour window during which they are available for out-of-competition testing.

Three whereabouts failures, whether missed tests, filing failures or a combination of both, within a 12-month period constitute an anti-doping rule violation and can result in a suspension of up to two years.
