Ramdin, Sarwan, Bishoo in West Indies Over-40 World Cup squad

GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC):

Former West Indies wicketkeeper-batsman Denesh Ramdin has been named captain of a West Indies team for next month’s International Masters Cricket (IMC) Over-40 45-over World Cup.

The Cricket West Indies Masters Association announced the 16-man squad over the weekend, with former West Indies captain Ramnaresh Sarwan and leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo also included for the October 17-31 tournament in Guyana.

The team will be managed by Rajendra Sadeo, while Julian Moore has been appointed coach and Surendra Seeraj assistant coach.

Ramdin, 41, played 74 Tests and 139 One-Day Internationals for the West Indies. He and Sarwan, 46, who represented the regional side in 87 Tests and 181 ODIs, headline a squad that also features several former West Indies players, including Rayad Emrit, Sewnarine Chattergoon and Jason Mohammed.

West Indies have been drawn in Group A and will open their campaign against Australia at the National Stadium in Providence.

Also in Group A are Namibia, Canada, Wales, defending champions South Africa, Sri Lanka and Colombia.

Meanwhile, Group B comprises England, New Zealand, the United States, Pakistan, India, Scotland, the Rest of the World XI and the Rest of the Caribbean XI.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, with the final set to be played in Providence.
