Four-team fight shapes up in daCosta Cup Group G

With only two places available in the next round of the daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition, the battle for qualification in Group G is shaping up to be a four-team fight.

After three matches, Denbigh High and Central High are level on seven points, with both teams putting themselves in strong positions to advance. However, neither can afford to become complacent, with Charlemont High on five points and Lennon High on four, leaving the door wide open for a dramatic finish.

Denbigh sit atop the group on goal difference after scoring 19 goals and conceding just once. Central, meanwhile, have scored nine goals and also conceded only one, leaving them behind their rivals on goal difference.

Charlemont, on five points, trail the leading pair by just two points, while Lennon, with four points, are only three points off the pace.

With the top two teams advancing, every remaining match takes on added significance. Denbigh and Central know that another positive result could move them closer to qualification, while Charlemont and Lennon have little room for error if they are to force their way into the top two.

Goal difference could also prove crucial if teams finish level on points, making every goal scored and every goal conceded potentially decisive.

Denbigh’s impressive return of 19 goals gives them a significant advantage in that regard, but Central have shown they can remain in contention with a disciplined defence that has conceded only once.

For Charlemont and Lennon, the task is straightforward: keep winning and hope the teams above them drop points.
