Deitz calls for consistency as West Indies women begin Zimbabwe tour

West Indies women’s head coach Shane Deitz is calling for consistency in performance as the team begins its white-ball tour of Zimbabwe on Thursday, with the first of three One-Day Internationals in Harare.

Zimbabwe will offer the West Indies an unfamiliar test, with the two teams having had limited recent exposure to each other. This tour marks their first bilateral series across formats.

The tour also gives the West Indies an opportunity to continue building on the progress made during their recent assignments, after completing a 3-0 ODI sweep of Ireland.

The Caribbean women enter the series in fifth place in the Women’s Championship standings, having collected four victories from nine matches.

Zimbabwe are 10th in the Women’s Championship table after losing all six of their matches in the current cycle.

That gives the West Indies a statistical advantage entering the series, but Deitz is conscious that Zimbabwe’s home conditions can present a different challenge.

Meanwhile, West Indies women’s wicketkeeper-batter Shemaine Campbelle says she is in a good place mentally going into the bilateral tour of Zimbabwe.

Campbelle has been having a good time in regional and international cricket over the last 16 months, having won the regional T20 tournament as well as the recent Women’s Caribbean Premier League.
