Boyz face fired-up Honduras

Reggae Boyz interim head coach Rudolph Speid expects Honduras to come out aggressively in search of a win when the teams meet in their Concacaf Nations League – League A Group B clash at the National Stadium today at 7 p.m.

The Reggae Boyz defeated Guatemala 3-2 in their opening game on Friday to share the early lead in the group with El Salvador and Suriname. Meanwhile, Honduras are coming off a 3-2 defeat at home to Suriname.

Speid pointed out that anything but a win could spell disaster for the Central Americans, whose appetite for victory will be enormous, but that they will be prepared for anything Honduras will throw at them.

“They will be hungrier this time to get a good result. Another bad result for them will almost put them out of the competition.

“I think this will be our hardest match yet and they are going to leave everything on the pitch, but we are prepared for it, “ he said.

In their loss to Suriname, Honduras showed some defensive weaknesses, but Speid said he is expecting them to make the adjustments.

“We have looked at it (game against Suriname) over and over, but every match is different. They will have also looked at their mistakes and try to adjust.

“I do not expect to see exactly the same team, but we are creatures of habits and I suspect there would be some semblance of what we spoke about coming into the game.”

Despite playing at home against a Honduras team that played on Friday and travelled over the weekend, Speid cautioned that there is no real advantage to be had, and that they will have to play hard to get a good result.

“There is not much of an advantage. With modern technology and modern science, people know how to recover and they are a good team. They are ranked higher than us.

“I don’t think there is a big advantage. We have to go on the pitch and play as hard as we can to try and get a positive result, “ he commented.

Honduras are in poor form overall. They have drawn two and lost three of their last five games. Their last win came almost a year ago when they blanked Haiti 3-0 on October 13, 2025.

In their last five head-to-head clashes, the Reggae Boyz have won four and drew the other match with Honduras. The draw came two years ago in the Nations League.
