Innswood Old Boys win Rovman Powell T20 tournament

After weeks of exciting cricket across St Catherine, the Rovman Powell T20 Competition came to an enthralling conclusion at Port Esquivel on Sunday, with Innswood Old Boys lifting the trophy in the grand final, while Old Harbour Cricket Club secured third place with victory in the play-off.

With Powell himself in attendance for the final, Innswood Old Boys rose to the occasion, defeating Portsmouth CC by 24 runs to claim the title.

Sent in to bat, Innswood posted a challenging 148-9 from their 20 overs.

West Indies and Jamaica batsman Kirk McKenzie produced a decisive performance, top-scoring with a well-paced 55 from 44 balls.

He received strong support from former national youth player Adrian Weir, who struck a quick-fire 47 off 31 deliveries.

Portsmouth’s bowlers fought hard to keep the target within reach, with all-rounder Jamie Hay (3 for 24) and national leg-spinner Tamarie Redwood (2 for 25) leading the attack.

Defending their total, Innswood’s bowlers applied relentless pressure from the outset of Portsmouth’s chase.

Damion Ebanks was the standout performer, ripping through the top order to finish with impressive figures of 3 for 12. Despite a fighting 27 from David Dewar and a brisk 24 from Javardi Francis, Portsmouth were unable to keep pace with the required run rate.

Ralique Thomas (2 for 21) and Brad Barnes (2 for 24) cleaned up the lower order as Portsmouth were restricted to 124-9, sparking jubilant celebrations among the Innswood players and supporters.

Earlier, in the third-place play-off, Old Harbour Cricket Club produced a clinical display to defeat the NWC team by 17 runs.

Batting first in a rain-reduced 13-over contest, Old Harbour posted a competitive 109-5, thanks largely to a superb innings from Tieno Osbourne, who blasted 61 from just 31 balls.

The NWC bowling attack, led by Oneil Wright’s excellent 3 for 18, did well to limit the damage and give their team a chance.

However, the chase fell short despite a commendable all-round effort from Wright, who followed up his bowling performance with a top score of 34 from 31 balls.

Old Harbour’s bowlers held their nerve and maintained disciplined lines, with national pacer Gordon Bryan returning figures of 2 for 14.

Romone Francis (1 for 17) also played his part as NWC closed on 92-4 from their 13 overs, handing Old Harbour a 17-run victory.
