Aenon Town flooding, April 20, 2026.

Sections of Aenon Town in northern Clarendon are currently inundated, with several areas now impassable due to the widespread flooding.

Member of Parliament for Clarendon Northern, Wavel Hinds, told The Gleaner that the situation began yesterday, and has since worsened.

Councillor Delroy Dawson, who heads the Aenon Town Division, said persons travelling through the area have been left stranded on multiple routes.

“Persons coming from Spalding are at Boro Bridge and cannot come down [because they are stranded,] and persons coming from St Ann are either at Cave Valley or in Thatch Walk, because some persons were trying to beat the water but got trapped, and now the area is impassable,” Dawson told The Gleaner, while urging motorists and pedestrians to exercise extreme caution and, where possible, avoid traversing the affected corridors.

“There are a lot of students who are trapped and cannot move from Spalding, and also students coming from St Ann, so they are trapped at Cave Valley," Dawson told The Gleaner a short while ago.

For residents, the latest flooding has stirred painful memories of last year’s devastation during Hurricane Melissa, when communities were similarly cut off, and forced to rely on makeshift boats to navigate submerged roadways.

Compounding the woes, the councillor said the Cave River has overflowed its banks, adding to the severity of the flooding. He noted that the situation is being closely monitored, with hopes that normalcy will be restored soon.
