For many, wellness starts with a gym membership, a morning walk or a meditation app. For MiA Jumpp, it begins with water, sound and a deliberate return to stillness.
Through BACK TO NTR, the healing arts community she founded, Jumpp recently launched the first stop of The Moonlight Medicine Tour, an islandwide series of floating sound bath experiences designed to bring people “back to nature and back to self”.
Held on May 31 at M'Bala in Port Antonio, Portland, the experience welcomed a deliberately small group beneath the full moon. While the setting may sound unusual to some patrons, Jumpp describes the execution as less about performance and more about creating conditions for rest.
“The full experience runs around four hours or so, with each section serving its [own] portion of medicine,” Jumpp told The Gleaner.
She wraps the session with an integration circle intended to help participants reflect.
For the Portland stop, Jumpp was joined by fellow sound artist Akinsanyah. Jumpp shared, “We work with instruments drawn from healing traditions across the globe, many of them intentionally designed to echo the restorative sounds of the natural world, from Tibetan and crystal singing bowls to African shekere and drums to Peruvian flutes and chakapas. The water in turn becomes its own instrument too, acting as a natural acoustic conductor, transmitting those vibrations directly into the body.”
Although floating sound baths may still feel unfamiliar locally, Jumpp says participants’ responses are what encouraged her to expand from private offerings into a wider community experience.
“The feedback from participants is honestly what has brought us to this point. From the one-to-one sessions to the group sessions, people have shared the most moving, profound testimonies — physical relief, emotional release, a deep sense of peace they hadn't felt in years, the list continues,” shared Jumpp, who is certified in Kemetic Yoga and Reiki, sound therapy, and plant-based nutrition.
The tour itself follows the nature calendar, hence the blue moon date for the first stop, which Jumpp says is to be in alignment with nature’s rhythm.
“The full moon is one of nature's most potent times — a moment of culmination, release, and heightened intuition. The moon exerts a gravitational pull on the Earth's waters, and since our bodies are largely made of water, we are not separate from that pull. We feel it, whether we're conscious of it or not. This particular launch fell on a blue moon — the rare occurrence of two full moons within a single calendar month — which amplified that energy of release, breakthrough, and liberation even further.”
The experience is designed to remain accessible to anyone interested.
When asked who the experience was created for, Jumpp shares, “The person who is overwhelmed, burnt out, disconnected [or] looking for a reset”. Jumpp continued, “For those who are tired, who have been carrying too much for too long. For the curious soul who has never tried anything like this but feels drawn to it. For the seasoned practitioner and the complete newcomer alike.”
She shared that people being overstimulated and disconnected due to digital, emotional and social noise inspired BACK TO NTR.
The founder explains, “When we say NTR, yes, we mean nature — but we're drawing from something much older and deeper. In ancient Egyptian, the word ‘NTR’ also spelt ‘NETER’ means the divine force, the sustaining force, the very essence that holds all living things together. So when we talk about getting back to nature, we're not just talking about trees and fresh air. We're talking about reconnecting with that divinity in you. The floating sound bath creates the conditions for exactly that. Floating releases the body, sound speaks directly to it through frequency, and together they create space for a deep remembering of who you are beneath all the noise.”
The next stop on The Moonlight Medicine Tour is scheduled for Kingston on Sunday, June 28, with location details to be announced.
