A St Andrew carpenter against whom gun charges were laid after an air gun was found in a barrel with chicken feed was offered $150, 000 bail in the Gun Court on Tuesday.

The 48-year-old defendant, Omar Cole, was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition arising from an alleged pre-dawn operation in the Bull Bay area of St Andrew.

It is alleged that on April 3, the police carried out an operation at two separate locations in Bull Bay where Cole is said to live or frequent.

The police report that during a search of a storage room at one of the locations, an air pistol and 28 pellets were recovered from a barrel containing an assortment of items including chicken feed.

An air gun is a type of gun that uses compressed air or gas, instead of gunpowder, to fire projectiles such as pellets. It is primarily used to shoot rodents and birds.

During the bail application, attorney-at-law Javed Grant argued that the premises where the firearm was allegedly recovered was not a location where his client, Omar Cole, had ever lived.

Counsel further submitted that Cole was not present at the property at the time the air pistol and pellets were found before commending his client as a suitable client for bail, given his favourable antecedent.

The accused was subsequently granted bail with conditions, including a stop order, surrender of travel documents, and reporting conditions.

He is to return to court on July 14.
