A St James man has been charged in connection with the shooting of a father and his six-year-old son during an attack in the parish earlier this year, the police say.

Charged with two counts of wounding with intent and using a firearm to commit a felony is 32-year-old Leroy White, otherwise called 'Chucky', of York Bush, Mount Carey, St James.

The incident occurred about 8:35 a.m. on Monday, March 16, in the vicinity of a bar along the Mount Carey main road, the police said in a statement on Thursday.

Reports are that armed men opened gunfire in the area. When the shooting subsided, the father and his son were found suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both were taken to hospital for treatment.

The St James Criminal Investigation Branch launched a probe into the attack and, following what investigators described as three months of investigations, White was apprehended on June 14.

Police said White was charged on Tuesday after he was pointed out during an identification parade and subsequently interviewed in the presence of his attorney.
