When Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring for France yesterday, he looked into the crowd as if to say “Did you expect anything different?”
He was absolutely right as his exploits in World Cups have been nothing short of remarkable.
Mbappé is hoping to lead his national team to a third FIFA World Cup title in what is his third appearance at football's showpiece event.
At the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Mbappé etched his name into the history books by becoming the youngest French player ever to score at the tournament. He also joined Brazilian legend Pelé as only the second teenager to score in a World Cup final.
The dynamic forward played a major role in France's successful campaign, finishing as the joint second-leading scorer and earning both the FIFA World Cup Best Young Player award and France's Player of the Year honour.
Four years later, Mbappé once again starred on football's biggest stage as France advanced to another World Cup final. He captured the Golden Boot as the tournament's top scorer and received the Silver Ball award for his outstanding performances.
His hat-trick in the final saw him set a new record for the most goals scored in World Cup finals and made him only the second player in history to score in back-to-back World Cup finals.
Mbappé has scored 58 goals in 99 appearances for France, including an impressive 14 goals in World Cup competition.
