Jamaica Broilers chairman Robert Levy resigns after 17 years; Gregory Shirley appointed successor

The Jamaica Broilers Group (JBG) has announced the resignation of long-serving chairman Robert E. Levy, ending a 17-year tenure at the helm of the company's board and more than six decades of service to the poultry and agribusiness group.

In a notice to the Jamaica Stock Exchange, the company said Levy stepped down as chairman effective July 22, 2026.

The board has recognised Levy's contribution by conferring on him the honourary title of Director Emeritus, a move that will allow the company to continue benefiting from his experience and guidance.

"In recognition of his distinguished service over 17 years as Chairman and more than 67 years with the Company, the Board of Directors has conferred upon Mr Levy the honorary title of Director Emeritus," the company said in its advisory.

The board also expressed gratitude for Levy's leadership and commitment throughout his decades-long association with the group, noting that it looks forward to his continued counsel in his new capacity.

To fill the vacancy, Jamaica Broilers has appointed Gregory Shirley as chairman with immediate effect.

Shirley has served as an independent director of the company for nearly 20 years and brings extensive boardroom experience to the role.

According to the company, he has served on the boards of several leading public- and private-sector organisations in Jamaica, including as chairman of a number of those entities.

"The Board extends its congratulations to Mr Shirley and looks forward to his leadership as Chairman," the company said.

The leadership transition marks a significant milestone for one of Jamaica's largest publicly listed agribusiness companies, with Levy leaving behind a legacy spanning nearly seven decades of service and stewardship.

His appointment as Director Emeritus signals the board's desire to maintain continuity while ushering in a new chapter under Shirley's chairmanship.
