Justin Fearon, co-managing director of D’Ferrano, says the concept of the restaurant was inspired by his father’s love of cooking and what they wanted to bring to the community of Portmore, St Catherine.

Two years ago, Lambert Fearon set out to turn a lifelong passion for cooking into a dining experience. Encouraged by years of praise for his culinary skills, he envisioned a space where good food, good company and memorable experiences would come together under one roof.

That vision became D’Ferrano, a rooftop family-style dining destination at Big Buy Plaza in Portmore, featuring everything from signature wings and ribs to Jamaican classics, complemented by an entertainment-driven atmosphere.

Spread across 6,300 square feet, the multifunctional venue is divided into three distinct spaces — a spirit bar, wine lounge and main dining area — allowing guests to transition seamlessly from a relaxed dining experience to a vibrant nightlife setting.

The name itself pays tribute to the family’s roots.

“D’Ferrano is derived from the last name of our director, which is Fearon, so we decided to go with something that can pretty much relate to him while portraying culture and class. So that’s what you experience here tonight, D’Ferrano,” said Operations Manager Andre Miller.

The restaurant was built around the idea that diners should not have to leave Portmore to enjoy a quality dining experience.

For Co-Managing Director Justin Fearon, the concept was inspired as much by his father’s love of cooking as it was by the community they wanted to serve.

Signature dish

“My father loves cooking, and stewed peas is possibly his signature dish that people ask him to make,” he said. “We know that Portmore is the life force of Jamaica and we’re aware that we had to create an elevated space where people can enjoy themselves without having to leave and come all the way to town, then come back in. So we’re really proud of what we have created here, which is dining with a difference.”

That philosophy extends to the menu. According to Miller, the team researched what local diners gravitate toward before creating a menu designed to appeal to a wide range of tastes. “You’re looking at wings, pastas as well, and barbecue ribs. We are talking about shrimp tempura and chicken quesadillas, while also providing quality Jamaican dishes seasoned, plated and served with love.”

The restaurant’s offerings include the D’Ferrano barbecue and sweet chilli wings, while speciality cocktails, including the D’Ferrano lychee martini, complement the dining experience. “Be sure to try our signature D’Ferrano wings, seasoned to perfection and designed to fall right off the bone. You can sip on our palate-approved D’Ferrano lychee martini, smooth and sweet,” said Miller.

Beyond the food, De Ferrano is also positioning itself as a space for entertainment, relaxation and celebrations. “We open at 6 p.m. to facilitate the golden setting of the sun as we introduce you to your new nightlife Mecca, because this gives that club vibe for those who want that. Here is where all the action and fun will be happening, so you can also rent the space for your corporate events and experience all that we have to offer,” he added.

For Miller, Portmore was always the obvious choice.

“If someone asks why Portmore, I would counter why not Portmore? It is a developing city that is growing exponentially; thus, it boasts a population that is thriving. We want to tell the Jamaican public that you can still be in Portmore and experience a premium experience. We are family-oriented because we function as a family while still maintaining our professionalism,” said Miller.
