Police constable charged for allegedly assaulting man during Marcus Garvey Drive traffic stop

A policeman has been charged for allegedly using his weapon to assault a man during a traffic stop along Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston.

Constable Brenton McLean is charged with unlawful wounding and was placed before the Kingston & St Andrew Parish Court on a summons on Tuesday.

McLean was bound over for December 8, when the case will be mentioned.

The alleged incident happened on June 25, 2018, in the vicinity of the Garmex textile complex.

The complainant reported that he received facial injuries from strikes from the officer’s gun.

Following an investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigations, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions ruled that McLean should be charged.
