Man fatally shot by police in Spanish Town

A 28-year-old man was fatally shot by police in Tryall Estate, Spanish Town, St Catherine after he allegedly engaged cops in an armed confrontation on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified by police as carpenter Curtis Morgan, otherwise called ‘Mayback,’ a resident of the community.
The police report that about 6:15 p.m., members of the St Catherine North Special Operations Unit were on patrol in the area when two men were observed on a premises.
According to the police, the men brandished guns and opened fire at the officers.
The police took evasive action and returned fire, and a shoot-out ensued.
After the shooting ended, one man escaped while his accomplice was shot and injured, police said.
The police further reported that he was found with an Arcus 9mm pistol fitted with a magazine containing six rounds of ammunition.
He was assisted to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe into the matter.
