Fifty-three-year-old Paulo Grant, who is charged with the murder of his 80-year-old mother, was again remanded when he appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday.
The body of Jasmine Grant, otherwise called 'Sister Grant', was discovered in the house they shared in Cheesefield district, St Catherine.
The Crown on Tuesday received documents from a medical facility which revealed that Grant is fit to plead.
It was revealed in court that Grant was an outpatient of a mental institution and had been under his mother's care.
However, the court was told by Grant's attorney that there was a need for an interpreter for the matter to advance as Grant, who previously resided in France, barely speaks English.
The matter was then postponed until June 2, 2026.
It is alleged that about 11 a.m. on November 19, 2025, a group from the mother's church visited her house after failing to reach her by telephone.
Upon entering the dwelling, the woman's body was found inside her house.
The police were summoned and it was revealed that the body was in an advanced state of decomposition and had several wounds.
Her son, who was at the dwelling, was taken into custody on suspicion of murder.
He was subsequently charged following a question and answer session.
