The court heard that Dookhoo, who had a history of alcohol use, would become irritated when his mother confronted him about his drinking.

Police Constable Tavoy Hussey has been charged in relation to the death of a woman who died after being shot while at a hotel in May Pen, Clarendon last January.

Hussey is charged with gross negligence manslaughter and appeared before the Clarendon Parish Court, where he was granted $1.5 million bail with one to two sureties.

Reporting conditions were imposed by the court.

The policeman is to return to court on September 3.

Killed was 20-year-old Jimoy Suckoo, who was shot on January 12, 2025.

Hussey was charged following an investigation by the police and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), as well as a ruling by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

It is reported that on the day in question, the policeman’s service firearm was discharged inside a hotel room, causing the injury and subsequent death of Suckoo.

He was off-duty at the time of the incident.

At the time, INDECOM reported that the policeman’s gun was recovered and that he provided an initial account to its investigative team.

The incident scene was also examined, and evidential material was processed and packaged, it said.
