Man held after brother killed, mother and sibling injured in St Elizabeth, police say

Police have taken a man into custody following a chopping incident that left his brother dead and his mother and another sibling injured in St Elizabeth early Saturday morning.

The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old Travis Williams, a construction worker of Stevenson Town in the parish.

According to police reports, Williams was allegedly chopped to death by his brother shortly after 1 a.m.

Both injured relatives were taken to hospital for treatment. Their conditions are not immediately known.

The accused remains in police custody as investigators continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the attack, which occurred in the Southfield area of St Elizabeth.

Police assigned to the Black River Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are leading the investigation.

As of June 7, the St Elizabeth Police Division had recorded 13 murders, seven more than the corresponding period last year, representing a 117 per cent increase.
