The Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) is warning persons against engaging in illegal lottery activities, saying they pose a threat to the integrity of Jamaica's regulated gaming industry.
The commission noted that two people, a man and a woman from Jones Town in Kingston, were recently arrested during a crackdown operation and subsequently charged.
The regulator said the two were brought before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court, where they pleaded guilty and were fined $100,000 or 30 days' imprisonment.
The BGLC said it is committed to combating illegal lottery activities through targeted enforcement operations across Jamaica.
It noted that persons who participate in, facilitate or support illegal gaming activities may face legal consequences.
The commission said it remains committed to working alongside law enforcement partners to detect, deter and disrupt illegal lottery operations across Jamaica while ensuring that the gaming industry operates within a framework of fairness, accountability and public protection.
