The police in St Mary are hunting for a man following the attempted murder of a 51-year-old woman in Forte George, Annotto Bay, on Sunday.

The police reported that sometime after midnight, the woman was at home when an argument developed between her and a man known to her.

During the dispute, she was reportedly struck in the head with an object before a substance was thrown onto her face.

The police said that the woman was discovered injured at approximately 6 a.m. and was subsequently taken to hospital, where she was admitted in serious condition. She reportedly sustained serious head and facial injuries, as well as extensive burns to her face.

The police were alerted about the incident by residents, and an investigation is now in progress.

Several enquiries are currently being conducted in Forte George and surrounding communities as investigators seek to locate the suspect.

Meanwhile, commanding officer for the St Mary Police Division, Superintendent Anthony Wallace, is again appealing to residents to settle their domestic disputes peacefully, rather than resorting to violence.

“Anyone with information that may assist the investigation or help police locate the suspect is being asked to contact the Annotto Bay police at 876-994-4222, 876-333-9530, or the nearest police station,” Wallace said.

Investigations are ongoing.
