Three charged with POCA breaches over $2.6 million cash purchase of motor vehicle

The police in St Catherine have charged two persons, along with a Manchester businessman, for breaches of the Proceeds of Crime Act in connection with the cash sale of a Toyota Mark X motor car.

Mekicia McGill, 35, and 19-year-old Marlon McDonald are being accused of purchasing the car in cash for $2.6 million, in breach of the Act, which prohibits cash transactions over $1,000,000.

Businessman Paul Hugh Davis is being accused of facilitating the transaction.

All three were charged on Saturday with prohibited cash transaction, identity information, and conspiracy.

The police report that on August 28, 2026, an intelligence-driven operation was conducted, during which the Toyota Mark X, with three occupants aboard, was intercepted in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

The police say the cops requested the vehicle’s documents to establish ownership and other pertinent information.

During the check, the police say inconsistencies were detected as to how the vehicle was purchased and the amount of cash used for the transaction.

According to the police, the investigation took the police to Mandeville, Manchester, where the businessman was interviewed and arrested.

The police say investigations revealed that McDonald and McGill had paid $2.6 million to Davis for the Mark X and a receipt was issued for the transaction.

All three were subsequently charged with POCA breaches.

A court date is being finalised.
