The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) says the region’s tourism sector remains fully operational and resilient despite recent disruptions caused by the temporary closure of airspace following the military operation by the United States in Venezuela.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the CTO said it and its 25 member destinations closely monitored the situation and worked with airline and accommodation partners to minimise inconvenience to travellers.

“The Caribbean has extensive experience managing external disruptions and has consistently demonstrated the resilience of its tourism industry,” the CTO said.

The organisation added that regional tourism partners responded swiftly to ensure continuity of travel.

It praised airlines for adding capacity to reroute and accommodate affected passengers, as well as hotels and other accommodation providers for their flexibility in supporting guests whose travel plans were disrupted.

These coordinated efforts, the CTO said, helped safeguard tourism, a vital economic engine for the region.

According to the CTO, cruise and air travel within the Caribbean continue to operate normally, and advance bookings remain strong.

“CTO encourages travellers to proceed with their plans and assures partners and visitors that the Caribbean remains open for business and ready to welcome travellers.”
