The Portmore, St Catherine, woman charged for allegedly making a false robbery report to the police in an attempt to obtain money was remanded when she appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday.
The accused, 44-year-old Tanesha Wright, an office assistant of Greater Portmore, is charged with obtaining money by means of false pretence and forgery with intent to deceive.
When Wright appeared before Parish Court Judge Genetta Smikle, she was ordered to be remanded until September 27.
Allegations outlined by the Clerk of Court are that on August 6, 2026, Wright went to the Portmore Police Station and reported that her house had been broken into and a number of items stolen.
The police gave her a case reference number.
Checks made by investigators at the premises revealed that her dwelling had not been broken into as reported.
Further investigation revealed that Wright used the reference number to obtain a $250,000 grant from a credit union under false pretences.
Wright later gave a caution statement to the police in relation to the incident and was subsequently arrested and charged.
