Residents of Cooper’s Pen in Trelawny returned to the streets Saturday morning, appealing to Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness for help and calling for their relocation following the recent controversial demolition of homes in the community by the property's owner.
“Where are you, Mr Prime Minister? Where are you? We need help,” one resident pleaded during the demonstration.
The residents say they want government representatives to meet with them and begin discussions about relocation.
“We need somebody to come and talk to us and relocate us,” another resident said.
Long-time resident Gladstone Palmer said many families have occupied the community for decades and are now desperate for a solution.
“We are decent citizens in this community,” he said.
“What happened to the people? Are we nobody? We are poor, innocent citizens, and I feel that’s very unjust to us.”
The latest protest comes days after homes were demolished in the community amid a long-running dispute over ownership of the property.
