S Hotel Montego Bay in St James has been named the number one all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean by voters in the 2026 USA Today Readers’ Choice Awards, while Sunset at the Palms in Negril, Westmoreland, secured the number four position.

The recognition is being hailed as a positive affirmation of destination Jamaica by visitors, amid disruption to the tourism sector caused by Hurricane Melissa.

The USA Today Readers’ Choice Awards are based on nominations from travel experts followed by public voting, making the rankings a reflection of traveller trust and satisfaction.

Two other Jamaican-owned resorts placed in the top 10, with Sandals Royal Curaçao ranked sixth and Sandals St Vincent and the Grenadines ninth.

Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett said the awards represent a tremendous accomplishment and welcome news as the tourism sector recovers following the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

“To be able to remain top of mind among travellers and secure such prestigious accolades is proof of the resilience of our local properties, including S Hotel Montego Bay and Sunset at the Palms, and their continued commitment to providing excellent service regardless of the circumstances,” he said on Wednesday at an event celebrating S Hotel’s sixth anniversary.

The event also marked the launch of recording artiste Mitsy ‘Shuga’ Campbell’s remake of Bobby Bloom’s hit song Montego Bay.

Located on Jimmy Cliff Boulevard in the heart of Montego Bay, S Hotel Montego Bay is a contemporary, adults-only, all-inclusive property known for its modern Caribbean design, strong culinary offerings, and personalised service.

The hotel has consistently earned international accolades for delivering a boutique experience that blends luxury with authentic Jamaican culture.

Christopher Issa, the resort’s CEO, said the award reflects both national pride and industry perseverance.

“This recognition is deeply meaningful, not just for S Hotel, but for Jamaica,” Issa said.

“After everything the country and the tourism industry have faced following Hurricane Melissa, to be named number one in the Caribbean is a powerful statement about our resilience, our people, and the strength of Brand Jamaica. It tells the world that Jamaica remains open, exceptional, and capable of delivering world-class experiences.”

Issa credited the hotel’s team members for maintaining high service standards despite the challenges posed by the hurricane.

Meanwhile, Group Financial Officer at Sunset at the Palms, Dale Daley, said the ranking affirms the enduring appeal of Negril and western Jamaica.

“This is a proud moment for Sunset at the Palms and for western Jamaica,” Daley said.

“To be ranked among the top five all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean—especially at a time when the industry is rebuilding and reaffirming itself after Hurricane Melissa—is a testament to our team, our loyal guests, and the strength of Jamaica as a destination.”

Sunset at the Palms, an adults-only, treehouse-style resort located across from Negril’s world-famous beach, is celebrated for its lush tropical setting, focus on sustainability, and intimate guest experience.
