NWA eyes March 2026 to finish reconstruction of Troy Bridge

The reconstruction of the Troy Bridge in southern Trelawny has a new completion deadline of March this year, says the National Works Agency (NWA).
"We've missed two deadlines because of unforeseen problems. The new deadline is March 2026," Stephen Shaw, NWA's manager, communication and customer services told The Gleaner. The previous deadlines were August and December last year.
Shaw said said the major task left to be completed is river training to ensure water flows under the bridge rather than around it.
The project, which is budgeted at $231 million, is being implemented by Dwight Construction. Works started in August 2024.
Shaw declined to comment on potential cost overruns, saying the agency would wait until the project is completed before addressing that issue.
In October, Shaw said the structure was 80 per cent complete.
The original Troy Bridge collapsed in August 2021 during the passage of Tropical Storm Grace, forcing farmers and residents to take significantly longer routes to schools and major towns.
“For the past four years, this bridge has been out, and it has really had a devastating economic impact. Troy is a very important economic hub for both Manchester and Trelawny," said Robert Morgan, the minister in charge of works, in October.
