Several bucket trucks seen on Carawina Road in Westmoreland as JPS continued several kilometres of repair work along the power line section leading to the National Water Commission’s Roaring River Pump. The energization of the lines aims to restore water

The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says it has completed restoration of electricity to the Roaring River National Water Commission (NWC) pump, which serves residents across Westmoreland.

"The energisation of the lines leading to the pump was completed on Wednesday night, with tests confirming that supply was provided," the company said in a statement on Friday.

The restored lines are also providing electricity to sections of Westmoreland, including Petersfield, Waterworks, and Shrewsbury Falls, the company said.

JPS said the restoration required rebuilding over 10 miles of electricity lines from the Paradise Substation to the Roaring River Pump.

It said more than 100 linesmen were involved in the work to ensure the supply was reinstated.

On Tuesday, Energy Minister Daryl Vaz said approximately 51,000 Jamaica Public Service (JPS) customers remained without electricity in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa.

He stated that electricity had been restored to the majority of customers in the hardest hit parishes, which are mostly in western Jamaica.

In Westmoreland, 17,096 of 34,603 customers were without electricity, he said.

Westmoreland Eastern Member of Parliament lamented on Tuesday that no one in his constituency had received power, months after the hurricane struck.

Earlier on Friday, Vaz said power returned to Darliston in Westmoreland.
