The Inter Secondary Schools Association (ISSA) has announced that there will be no 2025 Champions Cup competition.
In a statement on Sunday, ISSA president Keith Wellington said the decision was taken following consultations with key stakeholders and a review of logistical challenges associated with hosting the event at this time of the year.
“We thank you for your support throughout the 2025 schoolboy football season. This was invaluable in helping us to successfully deliver our competitions under difficult circumstances while meeting our objective of fostering the wholesome development of our student athletes across the island,” said Wellington.
ISSA said it is committed to the holistic development of student-athletes and confirmed plans to return with the full slate of schoolboy football competitions in 2026.
“We look forward to the staging of the 2026 staging of the ISSA Schoolboy Football Competitions, where together we will continue to provide an opportunity for excellence in school football,” said the statement.
The Champions Cup would have been played during the period of January 20-31.
Due to Hurricane Melissa, which ravaged sections of the western region, the competition was pushed back.
ISSA has now called off the competition.
The Champions Cup replaced the Super Cup, which was started by former sponsors Flow in the second year of their five-year sponsorship deal with ISSA, which ended in 2017. Glenmuir are the 2024 defending champion.
