2026 Hague Agricultural Show cancelled, focus shifts to help hurricane-battered farmers

The annual Hague Agricultural Show, scheduled for next month in Trelawny , has been canceled for 2026, as organisers focus on helping farmers recover from Hurricane Melissa. It's the second cancellation in four years.
President of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS), Deron Grant, said the decision followed discussions with farmers and sponsors.
"The funds needed to stage the show would be better used to help farmers rebound. Many would struggle to source products for display and sales," he explained.
Grant said the agriculture ministry were aware of the discussions and "fully supported the decision to help farmers rebound".
Horticulturist Clifton Davy expressed understanding but disappointment.
"I look forward to the show each year and was hoping for a rebound after Melissa," he said.
It was also a disappointment for farmer Claudette Anderson of Deeside, Trelawny. "I always make some money from selling coconuts. Even $5,000 can help put food on the fire," she noted.
The Hague Show is one of the largest events of its kind in the country.
