The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) is reporting that the outage affecting Hanover and Westmoreland is due to a problem that has developed on a major power transmission line.

JPS, in a statement on Tuesday, said it has mobilised its teams to address the issue.

The power company noted that restoration will require several hours of work, as the transmission line traverses challenging terrain in remote sections of the parishes.

It added that the company has been rebuilding power delivery infrastructure in these parishes following the catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Melissa.

JPS said that while significant progress has been made in restoring supply to customers, its power system remains vulnerable.

The company explained that the hurricane destroyed critical transmission lines, with little or no redundancy in place to allow for alternate power delivery routes and load transfers.

“JPS is assuring its customers in Westmoreland and Hanover that every effort is being made to restore supply as quickly as possible and asks for continued patience. Further updates will be provided,” the power company said.
