Westmoreland farmer charged after allegedly punching and chopping woman

A 25-year-old man has been charged for allegedly chopping and punching a woman during a dispute in Westmoreland on Saturday.

He is Jordon Chambers, a farmer of Chantilly Garden in the parish, the police say.

Chambers has been charged with wounding with intent and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Around 4:40 a.m., on Saturday, Chambers had a physical altercation with the woman, during which he allegedly punched her and squeezed her throat, a police statement said.

He allegedly then left the scene, returned with a machete, and inflicted chopped wounds to her body before fleeing on foot.

Residents took the woman to hospital, where she was treated and admitted, the police say.

Chambers was later apprehended during a police operation.
