Canadian man drowns in Negril after boat overturns at sea

A Canadian man drowned yesterday after the boat on which he was travelling off the coast of Negril, Westmoreland, was reportedly hit by a large wave, causing the vessel to overturn.
The deceased has been identified as 68-year-old Jean D’amour of an Ontario address. He was a guest at the RIU Club Hotel in Negril.
According to the police, preliminary reports indicate that the vessel, which was occupied by another individual, was struck by a large wave at about 1:30 p.m., causing it to capsize. Both occupants were thrown into the water.
One of the occupants was rescued and taken to safety, while D’amour succumbed, police said.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, including the condition of the boat and the prevailing sea conditions at the time.
More information is expected to be released as the investigation continues.
