Azizi Johnson believes the experience gained from reaching the round of 16 at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games will help elevate his overall game.
Johnson, who was competing in the Jamaica Table Tennis Association’s National Championships this past week, said the higher standard of competition can only make him a better player.
“It (competition) was very rough,” Johnson told The Gleaner.
He admitted that the competition was much tougher than he had anticipated.
“I went over there expecting a good competition, but the barrier is all the way up to the ceiling,” the 18-year-old added.
“I got knocked out in the round of 16, but it was a very good competition, very good exposure,” Johnson said, noting that he intends to work harder to improve.
“I don’t think there’s any (single) part of my game that needs special emphasis. Everything needs to be worked on equally,” he reasoned.
The affable Johnson is hoping for greater exposure to international competition.
“I believe in the coaches, I believe in other players here that can train me as well, but I believe going overseas and playing with other players also helps to build our game,” he said.
